Mistletoe
Ianto’s stomach rolled and he swallowed. He grimaced at the uncomfortable nausea. He rubbed his stomach absently as he tried to figure out what was making him feel so sick.
He hadn’t had too much to drink. In fact he hadn’t had anything close to alcoholic or rich since the egg-nog a week ago and coffee never ever upset him. He hadn’t had breakfast this morning and was just now bringing lunch in. They’d had Chinese last night but that was over twelve hours ago and Ianto knew from bitter experience that food poisoning started a lot earlier. So there was nothing he’d eaten or drunk that could cause it. It wasn’t his appendix. He’d had that removed years ago and he had no current injuries or bruising to blame.
He walked through his Tourist office and flicked the sign closed before slipping into the passageway to the lift. All the way down to the central Hub he pondered. The nausea wasn’t getting worse but it wasn’t passing either. He grimaced for completely different reasons as he wondered if he’d have to see Owen about this.
As soon as the lift doors opened Ianto was hit with a wave of nausea that had him swallowing hard and trying not to gag on the bile that rose in his stomach. He looked up and could hear -feel – Myfanwy’s distress and knew why he was feeling so sick. But he didn’t know why. The pteranodon had been perfectly fine when he’d gone to get the lunches. Something had happened within the last hour.
He quickly took the food to the boardroom and left it on the table. The rest of the team was standing in the middle of the Hub looking upwards. There was a horrible smell that had his stomach twisting.
“Lunch is in the boardroom and what’s wrong with Myfanwy?” he asked as he hurried back to them.
“I don’t know. I looked up and saw her throwing up,” Jack replied. “Came out here and she took off to her nest.”
“She was flying around quite happily an hour ago,” Tosh noted.
“I think she ate some of the mistletoe,” Gwen said hesitantly and Ianto turned to her.
“We don’t have mistletoe in the Hub. What was it even doing in here?” he demanded and Gwen coloured and stared helplessly back at him.
“You said no trees. You never said other decorations were banned.”
“I did say that, Gwen, after you tried to bring in that tree,” Jack reminded her. “Myfanwy likes her territory the way it is."
“Mistletoe is toxic, Gwen,” Ianto added. “You’ve gone and poisoned her.” He headed to the ladder that led to the eyrie and began to climb with the ease of long practice.
“Guess you get to clean up the vomit, Gwen,” Owen snarked from his desk. “Tea-boy’s going to be up there for an hour now with his precious bird and I don’t know about the rest of you, but I never knew dinosaur vomit could stink that bad.”
“Shouldn’t you take a sample to see how sick she is?” Gwen snapped back guiltily. “Won’t she need medicine or something?”
“Nah, Ianto will take care of her. He always does,” Owen shrugged. “Of course we’re now without coffee until she’s better and you’ll probably get decaf for a week, but hey at least he got our lunch in first.”

Date: 2011-12-26 02:31 pm (UTC)Poor Myf. And poor Ianto! Being empathic has some rather nasty down sides, you get to feel all the pains and discomforts of those you're connected to as if they're your own.
